Harbord Diggers Winter Edition Harbord Diggers Autumn Edition

Harbord Diggers is committed to being a community partner and this is evidenced by the clubs General Manager, Andrew Lauridsen being the chairman of the Warringah CDSE Committee. The CDSE (Community Development & Support Expenditure) scheme is a legislated scheme that see's clubs return 1.5% of gaming profits to eligible community based projects. "In 2008 clubs in the Warringah Council area provided more than $1.8M in contributions to local community projects and the Warringah Committee plays a part in ensuring these funds are allocated in line with the legislation and with council and community expectations." - Andrew Lauridsen.

The Committee consists of clubs within the area, NSW Government agencies, Warringah Council and other charitable representatives who combine to assess a variety of requests for support from locally based organisations.

"The process is fantastic in that, through the involvement of Warringah Council and the Department Of Community Services, you really gain an appreciation of the efforts of the local organisations and what they offer to the community. Even more so when you consider that without the support of the local clubs many simply could not function and deliver the essential services to the community that they do. The scope of these services is broader than I had ever expected ranging from aged care to disabled to youth, transport, support, mental health - you name it there is an organisation out there supporting someone in the community and more importantly the Committee ensures that we remain community based. It really is the epitome of local clubs supporting the local community." - Andrew Lauridsen.

This year Harbord Diggers is estimated to have contributed $285,000 to local organisations through the CDSE process, more than 3 times what is required under legislation and that doesn't even account for the sporting based support.

"What I can see through being involved in this process is that most people really don't understand that ultimately any "profit" a registered club makes goes back to where it belongs - in the community" - Andrew Lauridsen.

Applications are now open for support under the clubs Community, Development and Support Expenditure scheme where funds are available to a variety of community support services. Applications close on 31 March 2010.
